Imaginary Gardens with Real Toads
The Blue Morpho butterfly (Morpho menelaus) doesn't actually contain blue pigment. Instead, microscopic scales on its wings reflect light to create that impossible electric shimmer—a trick of physics that has captivated scientists and artists for centuries.
This is where I live: in that space between the real and the imagined. More at home in Alice's Wonderland than in Linnaeus's Taxonomy.
Vector Art Meets Pattern Design
Each Blue Morpho piece begins as precise vector drawing—capturing the wing structure, the iridescent blues, the delicate architecture of nature's engineering. Then I combine these vectors with intricate patterns, layering digital techniques to create something that exists between the real and the fantastical. The bug in question may not exist in the real world, but it exists in the mind of the artist and the viewer, stimulating that most potent human attribute: imagination.
