What is the Oeko-Tex Standard?
OEKO-TEX® is a worldwide independent certification system for textiles (and leather) established in 1992 by the International Association for Research and Testing in the Field of Textile and Leather Ecology, ensuring products are safe for human health by testing for harmful substances.
The most common label, OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, certifies that every component of a textile item—from fabrics and threads to buttons and zippers—has been rigorously tested against hundreds of regulated and known harmful chemicals (including formaldehyde, heavy metals, azo dyes, pesticides, and PFAS), with strict limit values often exceeding legal requirements.
This certification focuses on product safety and human-ecological quality, providing assurance that certified textiles like those used in Shoosty® pieces are free from substances that could cause irritation, allergies, or long-term health risks, while supporting eco-friendly practices through low-impact dyes and inks. Other OEKO-TEX labels, such as MADE IN GREEN, add traceability and sustainable production criteria, but STANDARD 100 remains the global benchmark for confidence in textiles.
